Unity College Center for the Performing Arts

Hosted by Sebasticook Regional Land Trust

Local food and lots of it is again on tap for this year’s annual Local Foods Feast on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Unity College Center for the Performing Arts.  Caterer Melissa Bastien returns and promises to shake up the menu for SRLT’s 10th Anniversary Celebration!  After dinner we’ll have a showing of the new documentary film DamNation.

This powerful film odyssey across America explores the sea change in our national attitude from pride in big dams as engineering wonders to the growing awareness that our own future is bound to the life and health of our rivers.  Dam removal has moved beyond the fictional Monkey Wrench Gang to go mainstream.  Where obsolete dams come down, rivers bound back to life, giving salmon and other wild fish the right of return to primeval spawning grounds after decades without access.  DamNations majestic cinematography and unexpected discoveries move through rivers and landscapes altered by dams (including in Maine), but also through a metamorphosis in values, from conquest of the natural world to knowing ourselves as part of nature.

Dinner served at 6 followed by the film at 7:30.  Dinner and film, $25; film alone, $10.  Reserve tickets at 948-3766 or jennifer@sebasticookrlt.org.
