"If you are against a dam, you are for a river." -Environmentalist David Brower
Join the Natural Resource Association of Graduate Students (NRAGS) as we partner with the University Libraries to host a screening of DamNation, a documentary covering the growing movement to remove obsolete dams and restore rivers. The documentary highlights the successful effort to remove the Elwah River Dam in Washington State and discusses how dam removal can benefit native species, communities, and the economy.
In addition to screening the film, we will host two guest speakers who will bring the topic of dam removal into a local context. Michael Page will discuss successful and proposed dam removals in western Wisconsin and Chris Lenhart will discuss the challenges and implications of proposed dam removal on the Mississippi River.
